Research and scientific work have always been one of the primary focuses of the University Sarajevo School of Science and Technology, along with an excellent education we aim to provide for each and every of our students. As outstanding researchers in their respective fields, our professors continue to explore opportunities and break ground in providing new and exciting scientific data that will hopefully challenge their students to walk the same path. One of these accomplishments is the book titled “Principles of Anticoagulant Therapy (With An Introduction to Pharmacogenetics of Warfarin)” written by Edin Begic (editor), Aida Mujakovic, Besim Prnjavorac, Enisa Hodzic, Zijo Begic and Mirsada Causevic, published under the auspices of the Sarajevo School of Science and Technology, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, on the 12th of September 2019.
It is a result of two years' work of the Department of Pharmacology of the Sarajevo Medical School, a part of the Sarajevo School of Science and Technology and in collaboration with prominent clinicians in the field of pulmonology, cardiology and paediatric cardiology.
This book is the first of this kind in Bosnia and Herzegovina, an important foundation in the development of pharmacogenetics itself, which forms the basis of a modern pharmacological approach to patient treatment.
It is aimed at medical students, general practitioners, specialists in internal medicine, or subspecialists in internal medicine to be a useful tool in everyday clinical practice. As it contains a laboratory protocol, it is also aimed at those interested in basic research sciences such as pharmacology, genetics and pharmacy.
We hope that this book will encourage undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as other biomedical scientists, to perform further research on the interactions between an individual's genotype and his/her response to oral anticoagulants.
