The first session in the “Ambassador Talks” series has been held at the premises of the University Sarajevo School of Science and Technology – SSST on Thursday, 13th December 2018. The aim of this series is the discussion on various political, economic and social issues, and enabling students of political sciences and economics to have an open conversation with accredited officials to BIH in reference to the geopolitical position of Bosnia and Herzegovina, its future and relations with other countries.
Students and professors of the Department of PSIR, as well as Economics and Business, have been honoured to greet H.E. High Representative Valentin Inzko as the first participant of “Ambassador Talks” series. The talk was mainly directed towards the role and responsibilities of the Office of the High Representative in BiH, and current issues and relations of the International Community concerning prominent political parties in BiH. Students expressed great interest on hearing about the stand of International Community and taking more action towards resolving disputes of national political parties, usage of their political power to greater effect, the position of this country in the next five years, especially regarding possible NATO membership etc. The High Representative openly spoke about the role of OHR which has been, as he said, greatly modified during last years, especially in relation to previous High Representatives and has once again emphasized the bigger effort needed from Bosnian and Herzegovinian politicians in order to resolve problems and put a stop to stagnation of BiH towards European Union. The professor Sabina Čehajić-Clancy has moderated the talk, and present were also the President of the SSST, academician Ejup Ganić along with the Rector, prof. dr. Vjekoslav Domljan. The High Representative has also highlighted the role of quality higher education as one of the most essential stops for reinforcement of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s future, and has encouraged students of the SSST in their research work and contributing to their academic development.
As students, along with the officials accredited in BiH have shown great interest in participating and continuing this type of open academic discussion, the University SSST will continue this session following winter break, in January of 2019. One of the next speakers will be the newly-appointed Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, H.E. Matthew Field.
